Short answer: No official list names the best personal injury lawyer in Cudahy. “Best” here means criteria, not a ranking. Cudahy, California, is an incorporated city in southeast Los Angeles County that contracts with the Sheriff; there is no city police department. Generally, a California injury lawsuit must be filed within two years.

A Spanish version of this Cudahy page is also available.

Attorney Advertising. “Best” in this title reflects how people search and the evaluation criteria below, not a comparative ranking, award, or guarantee of results. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

The first days after an injury in Cudahy

The first days after a crash or a fall mostly decide what evidence will exist later:

  1. Medical care. Getting checked promptly protects health.
  2. The report details. The responding agency, the deputy’s or officer’s name, and the report number.
  3. Scene evidence. Photos of vehicles, road surface, and injuries when safe, plus witness names.
  4. Camera footage. Ask early; nearby cameras often overwrite video quickly.
  5. A deadline check. Whether a public entity could be involved (that can start a six-month clock). Keep insurer mail.

Practical rule: A same-day note with time, place, agency, and report number often beats a long account written weeks later.

Cudahy is an incorporated city that contracts with the Sheriff

Cudahy, California, is an incorporated city in southeast Los Angeles County on the County’s list of the 88 cities. It is a small city near Maywood, Bell, and Huntington Park, not a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, and not Bell Gardens or Bellflower.

The City has no city police department of its own. As of October 27, 2026, the Sheriff’s East Los Angeles Station page listed 5019 E. Third St., East Los Angeles, CA 90022, and said it serves the City of Cudahy (along with Commerce, Maywood, and several unincorporated communities). That address is listed as an address only.

As of October 27, 2026, the City of Maywood’s Public Safety page (which covers the shared LASD contract area) listed the Maywood/Cudahy Sub-Station at 4319 E. Slauson Ave., Maywood, CA 90270, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., (323) 973-4726, and the East Los Angeles Station at 5019 East Third Street, non-emergency (323) 562-5005 or (323) 264-4151. Those addresses are listed as addresses only.

The same Public Safety page described SORTS for a limited set of property-type incidents. That list did not include traffic collisions, so this guide does not treat SORTS as a Cudahy crash-report path.

LA Law Group does not have a Cudahy office. We serve Cudahy clients from Chatsworth, as listed near the end of this page.

Who writes the report after a Cudahy crash?

Who writes the report depends on where the crash happened:

  • Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. For crashes on city streets inside Cudahy, the Sheriff generally writes the report through the East Los Angeles Station / Maywood-Cudahy Sub-Station path above.
  • California Highway Patrol. The CHP generally handles crashes on state highways. Use Find an Office by city, county, or ZIP. This guide does not assign CHP Santa Fe Springs Area (550) to Cudahy: as of October 27, 2026, the 550 Santa Fe Springs page did not list Cudahy. Name a CHP Area only when an official chp.ca.gov page places that geography there.

The report number at the scene shows which agency holds it. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Getting a copy of the Sheriff’s report

A Sheriff’s report is not requested from City Hall. As of October 27, 2026, the path for a traffic-collision copy was the Sheriff’s Records and Identification Bureau. The records FAQ said to call (562) 345-4441 to submit the request and schedule an in-person pickup, or to request by mail. Public Services is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by appointment only; walk-ins without an appointment are not available. The Bureau’s address on that page was 12440 East Imperial Highway, Suite 400 West, Norwalk, CA 90650.

How to request a Cudahy crash report copy (Sheriff path): (1) call (562) 345-4441 to submit the request or request by mail; (2) schedule a Monday through Thursday pickup appointment, or follow the mail instructions; (3) bring valid identification and any file or booking number from the scene; (4) confirm the current fee at the time of the request.

The Bureau’s fee sheet, linked from the FAQ and opened on October 27, 2026, listed $25 when a file or booking number is provided and a record is found, and $35 when a number is not provided and a search is conducted. Release of collision reports is restricted to those authorized under Vehicle Code section 20012. Fees can change. The pages gave no collision-report wait time, so this guide does not state one. For a CHP report, see Request a Crash Report.

Deadlines, and claims against a public entity

The lawsuit deadline. Generally, Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 allows two years to file a lawsuit for injury to, or the death of, a person caused by the wrongful act or neglect of another. See the statute of limitations for personal injury for more detail.

A public entity changes the calendar. When the City of Cudahy, the County of Los Angeles, or another public entity may be responsible, Government Code section 911.2 generally requires a written claim within six months after the cause of action accrues, before any lawsuit. A City vehicle, a public employee, or damaged public property can bring this rule into play.

As of October 27, 2026, the City’s City Clerk page listed the Clerk’s Office at 5220 Santa Ana Street, Cudahy, CA 90201, phone 323-773-5143, ext. 227, and published email [email protected]. The City’s Notice of Claim form (PDF), opened the same day, said claims related to injury to person or damage to personal property must be presented to the City within six months from the date of loss, and claims related to any other loss not later than one year, directed to the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall at that same address. An online Notice of Claim Against the City of Cudahy form on the City Form Center repeated the same six-month and one-year instructions. The PDF form listed no email, so this guide cites only the published Clerk-page email above and does not invent another. The pages stated no processing wait time, so this guide does not invent one. Verify the current City path before filing.

Some types of injury claims

These are some types of claims people bring after an injury in or connected to Cudahy (not a frequency ranking):

  • Motor vehicle crashes involving cars, trucks, or rideshare vehicles
  • Pedestrian and bicycle injuries
  • Slip-and-fall or other premises injuries on private or commercial property
  • Claims that may involve a public entity after the Government Code claim step above

How to judge a lawyer for a Cudahy claim

This page is not a ranking, and LA Law Group does not promise outcomes. Ask any California personal injury lawyer you are considering:

  1. California license (State Bar of California records).
  2. The right records. Does the lawyer know Cudahy contracts with the Sheriff (East Los Angeles Station / Maywood-Cudahy Sub-Station), and when the CHP responds instead?
  3. Public entity awareness. Does the lawyer check early whether the City, the County, or the state could be involved?
  4. An investigation plan. Photos, video, witnesses, medical records, and insurance coverage.
  5. Communication. Who gives updates, and how often?
  6. Written fee terms. When is an attorney fee owed, and who pays case costs?

How shared fault can change a recovery

California follows pure comparative negligence: damages are reduced by a person’s percentage of fault, but a claim is not barred just because fault is shared. See what pure comparative negligence means. Understand your rights before giving a recorded statement to the other side’s insurer.

Illustrative only. Coverage depends on policy terms and the facts.

Hypothetical: a left-turn crash on a city street (illustrative only)

Illustrative hypothetical, not a case result: This example does not describe a real client and does not predict any outcome. On a city street in Cudahy, a driver turning left across traffic strikes a car going straight. A passenger has neck and shoulder pain that worsens overnight. A Sheriff’s deputy writes the report; a nearby camera shows the turn. For illustration only, assume a jury assigned 80% fault to the left-turning driver and 20% to the other driver. Under pure comparative negligence, the passenger’s proven damages would be reduced by that passenger’s own share of fault, if any. This scenario is for education only; real outcomes depend on the evidence and the law that applies.

Frequently asked

How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in California after an injury in Cudahy?

Generally two years from the injury under California Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. A claim against a public entity such as the City of Cudahy generally has an earlier six-month step under Government Code section 911.2. Exceptions and tolling rules can move these dates, and waiting for a report generally does not pause them.

Is Cudahy an incorporated city? Which agency handles crashes there?

Yes. Cudahy, California, is an incorporated city in southeast Los Angeles County on the County's list of 88 cities. It is a small city near Maywood, Bell, and Huntington Park, not a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles. The City contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for law enforcement; there is no city police department of its own, and it is not LAPD territory.

How do I get a police report for a crash in Cudahy?

On city streets, the Sheriff usually writes the report. As of October 27, 2026, the Records and Identification Bureau FAQ said a traffic-collision copy can be requested by calling (562) 345-4441 to submit the request and schedule an in-person pickup, or by mail. On a state highway, the California Highway Patrol generally holds the report instead.

What should I do after a crash in Cudahy?

Get medical care first. Then keep the report number, the agency that responded, photos of the scene and injuries, witness names, and every insurer contact. Ask early about nearby cameras, because footage is often overwritten. Check whether a public entity could be involved, because that can start a six-month claim clock.

What if a city vehicle or public property was involved?

A written claim against the City of Cudahy, the County of Los Angeles, or another public entity generally must be presented within six months under Government Code section 911.2, before any lawsuit. As of October 27, 2026, the City Clerk page and the City's Notice of Claim form directed claims to the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 5220 Santa Ana Street, Cudahy, CA 90201, and said injury and personal-property claims must be presented within six months. That claim deadline is separate from the two-year lawsuit period in Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1.

Can I still recover if I was partly at fault?

California follows pure comparative negligence. An injured person's damages are generally reduced by that person's own share of fault rather than barred. How fault is split depends on the evidence, not only on what an insurer says.

Should I give a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer?

It helps to understand your rights first. Early statements can be quoted later, while photos, video, witness accounts, and vehicle damage often say more about how a crash happened than a short call does.

How do attorney fees work at LA Law Group?

No attorney fee unless we win your case. You are responsible for case costs regardless of the outcome. Every fee and cost term is set out in a written fee agreement before work begins.
