Short answer: No official list names the best personal injury lawyer in Paramount. “Best” here means criteria, not a ranking. Paramount, California, is an incorporated city in southeast Los Angeles County that contracts with the Sheriff; there is no city police department. Generally, a California injury lawsuit must be filed within two years.

A Spanish version of this Paramount page is also available.

The first days after an injury in Paramount

The first days after a crash or a fall mostly decide what evidence will exist later:

  1. Medical care. Getting checked promptly protects health.
  2. The report details. The responding agency, the deputy’s or officer’s name, and the report number.
  3. Scene evidence. Photos of vehicles, road surface, and injuries when safe, plus witness names.
  4. Camera footage. Ask early; nearby cameras often overwrite video quickly.
  5. A deadline check. Whether a public entity could be involved (that can start a six-month clock). Keep insurer mail.

Practical rule: A same-day note with time, place, agency, and report number often beats a long account written weeks later.

Paramount is an incorporated city that contracts with the Sheriff

Paramount, California, is an incorporated city in southeast Los Angeles County on the County’s list of the 88 cities. It is not a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, and it is not Bellflower, Compton, or Lakewood as a separate city.

The City has no city police department of its own. As of October 28, 2026, the Sheriff’s Lakewood Station page listed 5130 Clark Avenue, Lakewood, CA 90712, phone (562) 623-3500, and said it serves the City of Paramount (along with Artesia, Bellflower, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, and listed unincorporated pockets). That address is listed as an address only. The same page listed a Paramount sub-station phone (562) 920-2002 in a tow-release note; that number is not used here as a crash-report request path.

LA Law Group does not have a Paramount office. We serve Paramount clients from Chatsworth, as listed near the end of this page.

Who writes the report after a Paramount crash?

Who writes the report depends on where the crash happened:

  • Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. For crashes on city streets inside Paramount, the Sheriff generally writes the report through the Lakewood Station path above.
  • California Highway Patrol. The CHP generally handles crashes on state highways. As of October 28, 2026, the 550 Santa Fe Springs page listed Paramount among the cities served and showed phone (562) 649-6800 and address 10051 Orr and Day Road, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670 (address only). Use Find an Office by city, county, or ZIP when needed. This guide does not name any freeway as an in-city crash corridor.

The report number at the scene shows which agency holds it. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Getting a copy of the Sheriff’s report

A Sheriff’s report is not requested from City Hall. As of October 28, 2026, the path for a traffic-collision copy was the Sheriff’s Records and Identification Bureau. The records FAQ said to call (562) 345-4441 to submit the request and schedule an in-person pickup, or to request by mail. Public Services is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by appointment only. Walk-in service without an appointment was not available at that time. The Bureau address on the FAQ was 12440 East Imperial Hwy., Suite 400 West, Norwalk, CA.

How to request a Paramount crash report copy (Sheriff path): (1) call (562) 345-4441 to submit the request or request by mail; (2) schedule a Monday through Thursday pickup appointment, or follow the mail instructions; (3) bring valid identification and any file or booking number from the scene; (4) confirm the current fee at the time of the request.

The Bureau’s fee sheet, linked from the FAQ and opened on October 28, 2026, listed $25 when a file or booking number is provided and a record is found, and $35 when a number is not provided and a search is conducted. Release of collision reports is restricted to those authorized under Vehicle Code section 20012. Fees can change. The pages gave no collision-report wait time, so this guide does not state one. For a CHP report, see Request a Crash Report.

Deadlines, and claims against a public entity

California Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 generally gives two years from the date of injury to file a personal injury lawsuit. See our page on the statute of limitations for personal injury for more detail.

A public entity changes the calendar. When the City of Paramount, the County of Los Angeles, or another public entity may be responsible, Government Code section 911.2 generally requires a written claim within six months after the cause of action accrues, before any lawsuit. A City vehicle, a public employee, or damaged public property can bring this rule into play.

As of October 28, 2026, the City’s Filing a Claim page said to complete the City’s Claims Form (PDF) and return it to City Hall or email the form and supporting documents to the published address [email protected]. The page’s City Hall sidebar listed 16400 Colorado Avenue, Paramount, CA 90723, phone (562) 220-2027, and that same risk-management email. After paperwork is processed, the page said to expect a letter from Carl Warren, the City’s claims management firm. The Claims Form PDF is addressed as a written claim to the City Clerk of the City of Paramount; this guide cites only the published Risk Management delivery path above and does not invent a separate Clerk email for filing. The pages stated no processing wait time, so this guide does not invent one. Verify the current City path before filing.

Some types of injury claims

These are some types of claims people bring after an injury in or connected to Paramount (not a frequency ranking):

  • Motor vehicle crashes involving cars, trucks, or rideshare vehicles
  • Pedestrian and bicycle injuries
  • Slip-and-fall or other premises injuries on private or commercial property
  • Claims that may involve a public entity after the Government Code claim step above

This page gives no Paramount crash statistics; figures come only from SWITRS, UC Berkeley TIMS, or the US Census.

How to judge a lawyer for a Paramount claim

This page is not a ranking, and LA Law Group does not promise outcomes. Ask any California personal injury lawyer you are considering:

  1. California license (State Bar of California records).
  2. The right records. Does the lawyer know Paramount contracts with the Sheriff (Lakewood Station), and when the CHP responds instead?
  3. Public entity awareness. Does the lawyer check early whether the City, the County, or the state could be involved?
  4. An investigation plan. Photos, video, witnesses, medical records, and insurance coverage.
  5. Communication. Who gives updates, and how often?
  6. Written fee terms. When is an attorney fee owed, and who pays case costs?

How shared fault can change a recovery

California follows pure comparative negligence: damages are reduced by a person’s percentage of fault, but a claim is not barred just because fault is shared. See what pure comparative negligence means. Understand your rights before giving a recorded statement to the other side’s insurer.

Illustrative only. Coverage depends on policy terms and the facts.

Hypothetical: a left-turn crash on a city street (illustrative only)

Illustrative hypothetical, not a case result: This example does not describe a real client and does not predict any outcome. On a city street in Paramount, a driver turning left across traffic strikes a car going straight. A passenger has neck and shoulder pain that worsens overnight. A Sheriff’s deputy writes the report; a nearby camera shows the turn. For illustration only, assume a jury assigned 80% fault to the left-turning driver and 20% to the other driver. Under pure comparative negligence, the passenger’s proven damages would be reduced by that passenger’s own share of fault, if any. This scenario is for education only; real outcomes depend on the evidence and the law that applies.

Frequently asked

How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in California after an injury in Paramount?

Generally two years from the injury under California Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. A claim against a public entity such as the City of Paramount generally has an earlier six-month step under Government Code section 911.2. Exceptions and tolling rules can move these dates, and waiting for a report generally does not pause them.

Is Paramount an incorporated city? Which agency handles crashes there?

Yes. Paramount, California, is an incorporated city in southeast Los Angeles County on the County's list of 88 cities. It is not a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, and it is not Bellflower, Compton, or Lakewood as a separate city. The City contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for law enforcement; there is no city police department of its own, and it is not LAPD territory.

How do I get a police report for a crash in Paramount?

On city streets, the Sheriff usually writes the report. As of October 28, 2026, the Records and Identification Bureau FAQ said a traffic-collision copy can be requested by calling (562) 345-4441 to submit the request and schedule an in-person pickup, or by mail. On a state highway, the California Highway Patrol generally holds the report instead.

What should I do after a crash in Paramount?

Get medical care first. Then keep the report number, the agency that responded, photos of the scene and injuries, witness names, and every insurer contact. Ask early about nearby cameras, because footage is often overwritten. Check whether a public entity could be involved, because that can start a six-month claim clock.

What if a city vehicle or public property was involved?

A written claim against the City of Paramount, the County of Los Angeles, or another public entity generally must be presented within six months under Government Code section 911.2, before any lawsuit. As of October 28, 2026, the City's Filing a Claim page directed claimants to complete the Claims Form PDF and return it to City Hall or email it to the published address [email protected]. That claim deadline is separate from the two-year lawsuit period in Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1.

Can I still recover if I was partly at fault?

California follows pure comparative negligence. An injured person's damages are generally reduced by that person's own share of fault rather than barred. How fault is split depends on the evidence, not only on what an insurer says.

Should I give a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer?

It helps to understand your rights first. Early statements can be quoted later, while photos, video, witness accounts, and vehicle damage often say more about how a crash happened than a short call does.

How do attorney fees work at LA Law Group?

No attorney fee unless we win your case. You are responsible for case costs regardless of the outcome. Every fee and cost term is set out in a written fee agreement before work begins.
