Short answer: No official list names the best personal injury lawyer in San Dimas. “Best” here means criteria, not a ranking. San Dimas is an incorporated city in eastern Los Angeles County served by the Sheriff; there is no city police department under the City’s own name. Generally, a California injury lawsuit must be filed within two years.

There is also a Spanish version of this San Dimas page.

The first days after an injury in San Dimas

The first days after a crash or a fall mostly decide what evidence will exist later:

  1. Medical care. Get checked promptly.
  2. The report details. Agency, deputy or officer name, and report number.
  3. Scene evidence. Photos of vehicles, road surface, and injuries when safe, plus witness names.
  4. Camera footage. Ask early; nearby cameras often overwrite quickly.
  5. A deadline check. Whether a public entity could be involved (six-month clock). Keep insurer mail.

Practical rule: A same-day note with time, place, agency, and report number often beats a long account written weeks later.

San Dimas is an incorporated LA County city

San Dimas, California, is an incorporated city in eastern Los Angeles County on the County’s list of the 88 cities. It is not a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles.

The City has no city police department of its own. As of October 28, 2026, the City’s Sheriff’s Department page said law enforcement is provided by contract with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and that the Sheriff maintains a station at 270 S. Walnut Avenue, non-emergency (909) 450-2700. The Sheriff’s San Dimas Station page listed 270 S Walnut Ave., San Dimas, CA 91773-2646, phone (909) 450-2700, and said it serves the City of San Dimas plus listed unincorporated communities of Covina, Azusa, Glendora, La Verne, Claremont, Azusa Canyon, Mount Baldy, and Angeles National Forest (State Route 39). That station address is listed for contact.

LA Law Group does not have a San Dimas office. We serve San Dimas clients from Chatsworth, listed near the end of this page.

Who writes the report after a San Dimas crash?

Who writes the report depends on where the crash happened:

  • Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. For crashes on city streets inside San Dimas, the Sheriff generally writes the report through the San Dimas Station path above.
  • California Highway Patrol. The CHP generally handles crashes on state highways. Use Find an Office by city, county, or ZIP. This guide does not assign a CHP Area number to the City of San Dimas: as of October 28, 2026, Area pages checked from this writing environment returned errors, so no Area is named here. Name a CHP Area only when an official chp.ca.gov page places that geography there. This guide names no freeway or street as a crash corridor.

Getting a copy of the Sheriff’s report

A Sheriff’s report is not requested from City Hall. As of October 28, 2026, the path for a traffic-collision copy was the Sheriff’s Records and Identification Bureau. The records FAQ said to call (562) 345-4441 to submit the request and schedule an in-person pickup, or to request by mail. Public Services pickup for requests was described as Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. Walk-ins without an appointment were not available at that time. The FAQ listed 12440 East Imperial Hwy., Suite 400 West, Norwalk, CA; the collision-report section also listed Suite 120 at that address for report copies.

How to request a San Dimas crash report copy (Sheriff path): (1) call (562) 345-4441 to submit the request or request by mail; (2) schedule a Monday through Thursday pickup appointment, or follow mail instructions; (3) bring valid ID and any file or booking number; (4) confirm the current fee when you request.

The Bureau’s fee sheet, linked from the FAQ and opened on October 28, 2026, listed $25 when a file or booking number is provided and a record is found, and $35 when a number is not provided and a search is conducted. Release of collision reports is restricted to those authorized under Vehicle Code section 20012. Fees can change. The pages gave no collision-report wait time, so this guide does not state one. For a CHP report, see Request a Crash Report.

Deadlines, and claims against a public entity

California Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 generally gives two years from the date of injury to file a personal injury lawsuit. See the statute of limitations for personal injury.

A public entity changes the calendar. When the City of San Dimas, the County of Los Angeles, or another public entity may be responsible, Government Code section 911.2 generally requires a written claim within six months after the cause of action accrues, before any lawsuit. A City vehicle, a public employee, or damaged public property can bring this rule into play. Exceptions and tolling rules can move these dates, and waiting for a report generally does not pause them.

As of October 28, 2026, the City’s Claim Form page (opened via browser) said that to submit a claim against the City of San Dimas in person or by mail, print and fill out a Claim Form and submit it to the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours, and that a claim may also be submitted online via the City’s online claim form. Hours listed on that page: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Questions: Administration Department 909.394.6210. City Hall is listed at 245 E Bonita Ave, San Dimas, CA 91773. No processing wait time was stated, so this guide invents none. Verify the current path before filing.

If a County vehicle, County employee, or other County property may be involved instead, as of October 28, 2026, the Board of Supervisors Claims for Damages to Person or Property page directed claimants to mail or deliver a signed claim to the Executive Officer-Clerk of the Board, Attention Claims, at 500 W. Temple Street, Room 383, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Questions: [email protected] or 213-974-1440 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

How to judge a lawyer for a San Dimas claim

This page is not a ranking, and LA Law Group does not promise outcomes. Ask:

  1. California license (State Bar of California records).
  2. The right records. Does the lawyer know this is the City of San Dimas in Los Angeles County, that the City contracts with the Sheriff through San Dimas Station, and when the CHP responds instead?
  3. Public entity awareness. Does the lawyer check early whether the City, the County, or the state could be involved?
  4. An investigation plan. Photos, video, witnesses, medical records, and insurance coverage.
  5. Communication. Who gives updates, and how often?
  6. Written fee terms. When is an attorney fee owed, and who pays case costs?

How shared fault can change a recovery

California follows pure comparative negligence: damages are reduced by a person’s percentage of fault, but a claim is not barred just because fault is shared. See what pure comparative negligence means.

Illustrative only.

Hypothetical: a left-turn crash on a city street (illustrative only)

Illustrative hypothetical, not a case result: This example does not describe a real client and does not predict any outcome. On a city street in San Dimas (Los Angeles County), a left-turning driver strikes a car going straight. A passenger has neck and shoulder pain that worsens overnight. A Sheriff’s deputy writes the report; a nearby camera shows the turn. For illustration only, assume 80% fault to the left-turning driver and 20% to the other driver. Under pure comparative negligence, the passenger’s proven damages would be reduced by that passenger’s own share of fault, if any. Education only; real outcomes depend on the evidence and the law.
